{Lora & Brian; Just Married}

Coverage of Lora & Brian’s 8.22.09 wedding started at the White Rose Day Spa in Vestal, NY, where Lora and her bridesmaids were having their hair and makeup done.  Taking pictures of the girls getting ready is my favorite way to start my day, especially when it’s at such a beautiful, spacious salon.  And I love when my Bride’s have custom made shirts.

I was in love with all of the beautiful chandeliers at the salon.

I was also in love with Lora’s dress, which she found, along with the bridesmaid’s dresses at the Bridal Emporium in Endwell, NY.

Once the reception got started, they honored the couple that had been married the longest.  This couple has been married for 64 years!  They were so sweet, and I had the chance to ask them for a piece of advice.  Their secret?  Give and take.  I’ll try to keep that in mind.

img_6682db

I purposely dragged the shutter in some of the dance shots, to convey the feeling of movement.

I’m always interested to see what my couple’s do with their Engagement Session images.  This was one of the favors.

As always, the rings.

Lora, you were such a beautiful and dignified Bride.  I thank you and Brian for letting Michele, Missy and I spend your wedding day with you.  We wish you many, many years of wedded bliss!

{Joyce & Matt; Just Married}

Saturday’s forecast was hot & muggy.  I’m not going to lie…I was a little nervous because Joyce & Matt were having their reception outdoors, and I was worried about how everyone would hold up.  I need not have worried, though, because Joyce, Matt and their family and friends were troopers.

I don’t shoot many weddings in Cortland, and I must say it was nice to drive a mere 10 minutes to Court House Park, where I met up with the boys. When I found out they had sporting equipment with them, I was in heaven.  These are the kind of images I want to create with all of my Grooms & Groomsmen.  Here’s Matt up at bat.  (We did shoot some more “formal” stuff, too.)

Here’s Joyce getting ready at the church.  I love how bubbly and enthusiastic she always is!

This is one of my favorite father-daughter-coming-down-the-aisle shots ever.

And the look on Joyce’s face as she looks at her soon-to-be-husband melts my insides every time I see it.

img_4852db

It was decided beforehand that they would ride with Thelma & I in the H3.  We wouldn’t have been able to get these shots otherwise.

img_4977db

So glad I held out for one with a moonroof!

img_4992db

One of the best things about my couple’s is the trust they have in me.  When we discussed locations for images after the ceremony, Joyce & Matt left it up to me.  I knew from the time I’ve spent with them that they met at SUNY Cortland, so I thought it would be great to get a few pictures of them there, and they agreed.

img_5013db

I’m *SO IN LOVE* with this shot.

img_5046db

They scheduled an hour or so into their day for portraits of just the two of them, and it was definitely worth it.  I knew of an abandoned house that sits on an amazing piece of land that just happened to be on the way to the property their reception was being held, so we stopped there for a few more pictures.  By that time the big, puffy clouds I always pray for had rolled in.  I adore these two images.

I love when bridal parties ask to do something fun, and this one wanted to jump.  I’ve shot a few jumping bridal parties in my day, but this was the first group that didn’t block their faces with their hands.  Nice job you guys!

Dinosaur BBQ catered the reception.  If you live within driving distance of Syracuse, Rochester or NYC and you haven’t eaten there, you need to get in your car right now and drive.  I’m serious.

And last, but not least, the rings.

Joyce & Matt, I hope you have a wonderful time on your honeymoon!  I can’t wait to hear what you ended up doing on your drive.  I’ll talk to you when you get back!

{Alicia & Jason; Just Married}

Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing Alicia & Jason’s wedding at Holy Cross Church in Dewitt.  It was a short day, as the reception was being held at Alicia’s parent’s house and they decided to have me document Alicia getting ready, the ceremony, and some formals afterwards.

I’m going to keep commentary to a minimum, because I think I told them their blog post would be ready Monday morning, and here it is almost 2:30 and I’m just starting.  I couldn’t narrow it down any further, so it took me a little longer than I thought to edit them.

The rings.  I couldn’t believe how tiny Alicia’s finger’s are!  I’ve held a lot of wedding rings over the years, and I’ve never seen such tiny rings.  They’re a size 4!

LOVE the emotion here!

img_4258db

Last, but not least, I’ll leave you with one of just the two of them.

img_4384db

Alicia & Jason, thank you for trusting me with your special day!  Missy and I had a great time.  Enjoy your honeymoon!  I’ll talk to you when you get back.

{Cake Girl}

A couple of posts ago I told you that I was in Geneva, NY, with my friend and cake artist Jen to deliver cakes for 2 weddings.  This blog post will have a few behind-the-scenes images of them coming together, along with the final product.  But before I get to the pictures, I want to toot Jen’s horn a little bit.

I met Jen through Twitter.  (Yes, Twitter, lol.)  I had been following her for a short time and loved her tweets, and one day I decided to check out her website, and I knew I’d found Central New York’s hidden gem.  Jen is the owner of She Takes The Cake, and specializes in unique wedding cakes, but also offers unique birthday cakes, custom cookies and to-die-for cupcakes.  (She has a showroom in the Millstone Building in Manlius, and has cupcakes available for purchase if you’re in the area.)  I sent her a quick email after browsing her site, introducing myself and complimenting her on her work, and that email blossomed into a friendship.  I am especially happy to have found another local wedding vendor with the same mindset as myself.  She goes above and beyond for her clients, has an amazing work ethic, is super talented and fun to be around.  If you’re looking for something different for your wedding, she’s your girl.

This is Jen and the florist putting the finishing touches on Friday night’s wedding at the Belhurst Castle.  The florist was Flowers By Suzane.  They don’t have a website, but you can contact them at (315) 866-0206.

img_3656db

The end result.  It was a “tilty” cake, so if it looks like it’s not level, that’s because it’s not.

img_3686db

Late that night, back at the Motel 6, (lol!) Jen continued working on Saturday’s vintage inspired wedding cakes.  I love this shot of her hand painting the flowers.

img_3708db

These decorative pieces were made with royal icing and were extremely fragile.  (And tasty.)

img_3711db

The Bride surprised the Groom with a cake all his own.

img_3732db

The end result.  Notice the way the royal icing details curve away from the cake.  I’ve never seen anything like it before, and I doubt I will again.  Truly a one-of-a-kind wedding cake!

img_3745db

I love the reflection of the mirror from this angle.

img_3753db

Jen, thanks for giving me the opportunity to join you!  It was great to see what other vendors go through when I’m off with the Bride & Groom!
