{Abandoned, Part VI}

Just a few that were taken on the way home from our trip to Niagara Falls & Fort Niagara Mother’s Day weekend.  This project kept me sane during the winter months when I had no weddings to shoot, but now that wedding season is about to begin for me I will be putting it on the back burner until the cold weather returns.

This one is my personal favorite from this trip.  Hot Husband & I both thought this house looks like a face…the windows as eyes, the roof over the front door as a nose, and the door sticking out of the doorway as it’s tongue.  The door is actually red, too!  The green grass and leaves overpowered the house itself, so I converted it to black and white.

{Clarissa & Stephen; Engaged}

Clarissa and Stephen are getting married in May, 2010.  Clarissa really wanted to have her Engagement pictures taken in the same season they were getting married, so we scrambled to find a time for the session since her and Stephen don’t live locally.  Saturday morning was the only time we could get together, and they agreed to a 7:30 am session in Binghamton.  Clarissa’s parents have just finished building a gorgeous timber frame home, and since that’s where she is getting ready on her wedding day she asked me if I’d like to meet them there for a tour of the house.  I’m so glad I did because it’s absolutely gorgeous, and I already have ideas forming in my head.  I can’t wait to see it after they’ve finished moving in because Clarissa’s mom has a fabulous sense of style.

First stop?  Coffee.  Stephen was willing to sacrifice some sleep as long as he could start the day with some caffeine.  Who can blame him?  You know I’m always looking for an excuse to go to the coffee shop.

This was one of the first images from the session.  I knew then that it was going to rock.  Clarissa is a natural and the camera loves her.

Clarissa doesn’t even drink it, but she was very patient while Stephen got his coffee on.   And while her Photographer did, too.

I think this is “the” spot for couple’s to have their picture taken after wedding in Binghamton.  Stephen wanted to stay away from cliche spots, but I assured him I would put my own spin on it.  I *totally* love this shot.

This is also one of my favorites.

Kickin’ it up a notch.  These two are HOT!

Another one of my favorites.  This shot is smokin’!

Who says ring shots are just for the wedding?  I think I’m going to start making them a standing part of the Engagement Session.

Clarissa and Stephan, Missy and I had an awesome time hanging out with you!  I know it was early, but you were great sports and we got some great images.  I can’t wait for the wedding!

{Ryan & Renae…Upscale Urban}

This year I have several Groom’s that have contacted me about photographing their weddings, and Ryan is one of them.  Photography is important to both Ryan & Renae, but Ryan in particular was adamant about selecting the right Photographer for their wedding day.  Since they’re living in Buffalo we’d planned to meet in person the next time they were in the area, (Renae is from Cortland, so they’re getting married locally) but Ryan was sick and wasn’t able to join Renae when she and I got together.  That meant Saturday was the first time I’d actually met Ryan, but since he spends about as much time on the computer as I do, we’ve exchanged emails, chatted through gmail and followed each-other on Twitter and Facebook in addition to talking on the phone.  So I already felt like we were old friends.

Their session had originally been planned for late Saturday afternoon, but there was a good chance it was going to rain, so we were able to reschedule for the morning.  I always tell my couple’s the earlier the better when planning sessions because that’s when the light is best, so when I woke up Saturday morning to an overcast day minus the gorgeous sunlight I’d told them about, I just had to laugh.  They were good sports about it, and in the end it was a good thing we’d moved the session up because it poured 30 minutes after their session was originally scheduled to begin.

We’d had a few discussions about where to do the session, and they wanted to stay away from the waterfalls and other typical locations.  I’d recently driven through the Cornell campus area  and thought about how great it would be to do a session there, so when they suggested a more urban setting I asked Ryan to explain what he was picturing when he said “urban”.  When I think of urban I picture graffiti and old brick buildings.  Ryan was picturing something a little nicer than that, lol, so when I told him about the area around Cornell they were thrilled.  We decided to name this session “Upscale Urban.”

Ryan & Renae, Michele and I had a great time hanging out with you on Saturday!  Here are my favorites from the session.  Talk to you soon!

Isn’t Renae gorgeous?!

The view was amazing.  Too bad it was so cloudy that the sky show up white.

It’s so nice to have leaves in the background!

This is one of my favorites.

Yep, sometimes I take pictures of people without their heads.  I adored Renae’s shoes, so I thought they needed a picture of their own.

What I wouldn’t give to live here.  This place was amazing.  Someone had the poor taste to leave their SUV parked right in front, so I composed the picture without it.  We’re pretty sure it belongs to a fraternity or sorority.  Thanks for letting us “borrow” your amazing house!

It was starting to get really hot by this time.

I really *love* this picture.

I totally want to live in this house, too.  It was all I could do not to walk up and peek in the windows.  We behaved ourselves and stayed on the steps, though.

Renae gets all the credit for this one.  It’s right by that amazing first house and she noticed it on the way back to my car.  We took a couple of images and continued walking when she noticed the heart carved into it, so they climbed back into the tree for this shot.

You might notice all of the vertical shots are on a gray canvas this time…I’ve received some feedback from my peers that when I use a colored canvas it takes away from the image itself.  What do you think?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

{The Longest Blog Post In The History Of Blog Posts}

Or maybe not, but it sure feels like it!  I swear I just edited a billion images for this post.

This was supposed to be a blog post with rugby pictures from a tournament in Lockport, however, after we booked a hotel room for the night, filled up the car with gas and drove 3 hours to get there, we found out nobody else from the team was coming to play.  (I’m sure they will all pitch in to reimburse us for our travel expenses.)  We quickly came up with a Plan B, which was to take The Youngest to see Niagara Falls.  (The Oldest was at his Dad’s for the weekend.)

Here are some snapshots from that trip.   It was extremely windy and kind of chilly (especially with the spray from the falls), not to mention the fact that the falls are much more picturesque from the Canadian side.

This is the Skylon Tower.  There’s a revolving dining room at the top where Hot Husband and I ate when we were dating.

The Horseshoe Falls.  Not an award-winning picture, by any means.  If you stand there for any length of time you’re bound to leave soaked.

Day 2, Mother’s Day:

Mother’s Day morning I woke up at 6 am, much to my dismay.  We’d gone to bed late the night before after attempting to see a double feature at the drive-in, but instead taking care of The Youngest who, 30 minutes into the first movie, suddenly became violently ill.  I was afraid to open up my eyes only to find out it was going to continue, but instead I was greeted with a 6 year old turning on the coffee maker that Hot Husband had prepped the night before.  He actually waited for the coffee to finish brewing and brought me a cup before he handed me his homemade card, lol.  You’ve got to love a kid who knows what his Mother needs most.  He’d already given me his present since we weren’t going to be home and it wasn’t the kind of item you pack in your Yankee’s backpack.

img_1185db

After breakfast we decided to head over to Old Fort Niagara for a tour.  Although I was kind of humoring Hot Husband when I agreed to go, I’m really glad we went.  While I’m not as interested in the history of it from a military standpoint as he is, I am a sucker for a beautiful location and historic architecture.  I’m also fascinated with haunted buildings, but I had no idea it was supposedly haunted until we were leaving.

The “French Castle”, which I totally want to buy and turn into a reception venue.  If only. It was constructed in 1726 and was used as a trading post during the French regime, as well as a military fortification.  It contains a 25 foot-deep well, which is rumored to be haunted by the headless ghost of a murdered French officer.  As the story is told, he arises to search for his missing head when the moon is full.  I’m not sure if I’m sad or grateful that it was daytime when we visited.
