Rockin’ Robin

The Husband & I were trimming back a hedge last week so we could finish installing the new fence, and we found a Robin’s nest nestled in the part we were cutting down. I quickly ran and got my gardening gloves so I could move it to part of the hedge that was staying, praying that she would come back to take care of the 2 eggs inside it.

Not only did she come back, she laid 2 more eggs after we relocated her nest! I can’t wait to see her babies!

Rock Star!

It appears that The Youngest’s new hairstyle has gone to his head. Get it?

OK, I’ll stop with the jokes.

Anyway, he seems a bit cocky this week, and yesterday he came home from school and told me he was going to be a rock star. It’s going to be one of his “jobs” when he gets older.

Not long after I heard The Husband’s iPod blaring in the kitchen, and he told me I needed to go witness the show, so I brought Junior along.

Some air guitar:

Mixed in with some break dancing type stuff. The Husband was trying to help him spin.

Then The Oldest showed up after track practice. He was invited to join in, but he’s too cool for that. Plus he knows it would get posted on the blog for all his homies to see. He’s not going to fall for it.

Faux Hawk

“Mommy, I want a Mohawk.” That’s what The Youngest said a few weeks ago. As a parent I’ve been down this road before. Most likely 7 years ago when The Oldest was 5.

Back then I was concerned about the social ramifications of a 5 year-old with a Mohawk. Would people stereotype him? Would the other kindergarten children include him when they played “duck, duck, goose?” What would his Grandparent’s say?

I don’t bother worrying about that stuff now that we have a second child, which is why Hot Husband & I took him to get his hair cut on Saturday. I thought it was rather ironic when the stylist said she didn’t “do” Mohawks….she does “Faux Hawks.”

He’s none the wiser.

Work, Work, Work!

I have been sooooo busy trying to finish some projects around here so I can show you the finished product, but I just can’t seem to move fast enough! The remodeling is done, with the exception of the few projects we have left to complete ourselves…and true to my HOADD (home-owner’s attention deficit disorder) I can’t finish one project without moving on to another.

Which means I have a ton of projects I can’t show you yet.

We’ve been installing fencing since Saturday. After much digging on The Husbands’ part (Thelma’s hubby helped out), they realized they’d measured once and dug. If you own a home or have ever watched a remodeling show, you may have heard the phrase “measure twice and cut once.” Unfortunately, that meant The Husband has had to re-dig the holes every night after work.

Guess who’s been cooking dinner?

Yesterday I got smart and cooked some ribs in the crock pot so I could help set the posts and take some pictures, since I figured you’ve been missing me.:)

Here’s The Husband hanging the gate, which was the whole reason I picked this particular fence. They had lots of black fencing with boring gates, but ours had to be rounded at the top.

A shot of the old fence behind the new. The old fence was an eyesore, but I would’ve lived with it for a while longer if we hadn’t had to cut it open to install the fireplace insert.

A peek through the hole in the old chain link.

What could be better for a 5 year-old than a pile of dirt for his trucks?
