It’s Too Bad We Can’t Charge A Hummer

I feel obligated to do some sort of “What I Got For Christmas” post, so here it is. Never mind the fact that I should’ve done this post days ago, which would give me time to do a “These Are My New Year’s Resolution’s” post before the new year actually began. It just so happens that I’ve been working extremely hard on my new website. Like almost-every-waking-hour-that-I’m-not-working-at-my-part-time-job hard. But I think it’s finally done so now I can move on to bigger and better things. Like this blog post.

In a freak turn of events Hot Husband actually got me the automatic car starter that I asked for. If I’d have asked for a unicorn and an automatic car starter and told him he could only get me one of the two I would’ve bet that he’d go for the unicorn, and we all know how difficult it would be to pull that off. Hot Husband doesn’t buy me stuff for my cars because I change them about every 3 weeks. (Or so it seems to him). He used to, but then I traded in 2 vehicles in a row after we bought new tires and he started to catch on and told me not to ever ask him to buy me stuff for my rides. He knows me well enough not to ask me to just keep the cars.

So, since it happens to be December in New York and I have to be at work at the crack of dawn (almost), I was thrilled at the thought of pressing a button from inside the house and having a warmed-up car to get into. The day after Christmas we tried to make an appointment to have it installed. That was when they told me I’d have to wait a month for an appointment, and then proceeded to tell Hot Husband that they’ve had some problems installing them in Chrysler products because something about the electrical system. Uh…yeah. I’m hoping my luck is much better in 2009, but the way it’s going I’d have a working car starter but the radio would be permanently stuck on NPR. No thanks.

Hot Husband was a little disappointed with the fact that I returned his gift, mostly because he realized that he was still on the hook for a present and our cash flow is pretty much non-existent because we spent a small fortune last month replacing the brakes on his Durango. He pretty much told me I could have whatever I wanted as long as he could put it on his Best Buy card, and since we’re still arguing about whether we’ll get 1 flat panel tv for the living room or 2, I decided to get some RAM for my computer.

Which pretty much makes me a full fledged geek.  This is what RAM looks like in case you’re one of the cool kids who doesn’t mess around with stuff like this and was wondering.  Back before I had to learn all of this computer stuff just to show my pictures to the world, if you had said the word RAM to me I would’ve pictured a big, blue truck with 20″ rims and a leather interior.  Boy, I sure miss that thing!

Other favorite gifts included a new case for my iPhone that allows me to clip it to my pants when I don’t have pockets, a sweet pair of pajama bottoms from Old Navy (I went back to get more the day after Christmas and the only size they had was XS. Yeah, right), some new beads for my Pandora bracelet (will this thing EVER be full?), and the ever popular Dunkin’ Donuts gift card. Yum.

P.S. Don’t forget to stop by my brand-spankin’ new website and tell me what you think!

Theresa’s Family Session

Theresa contacted me a while back about doing a family session around the holidays, when everyone was together in one place. After playing a lot of phone tag we were finally able to set a date for Saturday the 27th, and Theresa suggested La Tourelle as the location. I contacted Leslie and they were happy to accommodate us. Many thanks to them for allowing us to borrow their location, because although it’s been warmer than usual, it was still pretty breezy and a session entirely outdoors would’ve had to have been a quick one!

Theresa, I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with you all, and I hope we can do it again in the future. I wish the very best for you and your family. Keep in touch!

This Is A Totally True Story

I have a medical condition that hits sometimes without warning, and one of the symptoms is extreme fatigue.  So, for the past week or so, whenever I have a chance to rest, I do.  The rest of the time, when I have to be up and around and productive, I request a coffee IV to (hopefully) balance out the medication I take that makes me tired.  I’m always amused that the side effects of the medications to make me feel better are drowsiness.  Hmmm.

Anyway, I had to work on Christmas day, for the first time since The Youngest was born, and I was also feeling very tired.  After church I thought it would be nice to head over to Dunkin’ Donuts for a hot cup of caffeine for the adults and some hot chocolate for the boys.  I was also craving some munchkins.  Hot Husband had used his new frying pan to make eggs for breakfast, but I’d passed on those because sometimes they don’t sit well with me.  I didn’t want to add to my misery, so I’d gone to church on an empty stomach.

We discussed the possibility that Dunkin’ Donuts might be closed on the way over, but I had hope.  Sure enough, it was.  Closed, that is.  Hot Husband suggested we get on the highway and pop down 2 exits to the one that’s located inside a truck stop, but I couldn’t stand any more disappointment, so we headed home.  That evening, after I finished working, we decided to drive around and look at Christmas lights.  It was almost 8 pm and I was tired, not to mention It’s almost impossible for me to drive anywhere without coffee, so  I headed over to the truck stop.  Sure enough, Hot Husband was right.  They were open.  What follows is a true conversation held at the speaker.

Poor Guy Working On Christmas:  “Welcome to Dunkin’ Donuts!  Can I interest you in a pumpkin muffin?”

Me:  “No thanks.  I’d like 2 small coffee’s and a chocolate frosted donut.”  (The donut was for The Youngest this time.)

PGWOC: “Sorry.  We don’t have any donuts on Christmas.”

Me:  (Mentally reviewing the name of this establishment in my head.)  “You don’t have donuts on Christmas????????????????!!”

PGWOC:  “No.  We don’t have any donuts.  Would you like a pumpkin muffin?”

So I ordered a coffee cake muffin for The Youngest, but then when I got up to the window I asked the guy if they didn’t get any donuts for Christmas because they were naughty.  I don’t think he was amused by my sense of humor. I guess it doesn’t help that by 8 pm I probably wasn’t the first to ask him that, but it reminded me of the time I went there with Thelma’s youngest and tried to get her a chocolate frosted donut (that’s what good Aunt’s do) and they didn’t have any then, either.  I was trying desperately to come up with something to order her that would load her up with sugar before I gave her back to Thelma, but wouldn’t make a huge mess inside my Charger, and when I relayed that to the guy working he suggested a muffin as well.  Surely he’d never fed a child one of their muffins.  I mean, it’s hard for me to eat one without making  a huge mess, let alone a 2 year old.  I’m pretty sure our suicidal mice could feed their families for months on the amount of coffee cake muffin crumbs in my car right now.  Also, since Hot Husband got me an automatic car starter for Christmas and I have to go over to see if they can install it today, I’ll have to stop and vacuum my car out or they’ll think I’m a complete slob.  So now they’ve just made more work for me by not having donuts at Dunkin’ Donuts on Christmas. Not to mention I’m starting to wonder if they make commission off of selling their muffins.

I’m getting tired just thinking about it.

Merry Christmas!

I’m the worst kind of slacker. The kind that still hasn’t sent out any Christmas cards. I planned to do it, but I never really had a good idea for this year’s card, and the boys both need haircuts, and something to wear, and I need 7 more hours each day to get stuff done, and, well, I just never did it. Hot Husband even threatened to take their picture with his camera and then have cards made up at Walmart. Which is the equivalent of me telling my Hot Teacher Husband that I’m going to home school the children. Those things are never going to happen.

So, with my being in the middle of designing wedding albums, and working on my website, and just plain working, I decided the best I could do at this point was to post the Christmas card I would’ve sent on my blog for all (seven of you) to see. It’s very fitting since we’re currently getting a huge snow storm, but next year I promise I’ll do better.

Also, because this is the season for giving, I’ve decided to run a Digital Download special from now until New Year’s Eve. (December 31st for those of you who follow the Chinese calender.) Just enter the code “Digital Download B2G1″ and you will receive one free digital download when you purchase two! Remember, you can print them as many times as you wish, so if you were thinking about purchasing a file or two to print as gifts, now is the perfect time to do so!
